With the NBA Draft less than 48 hours away, here are my final player rankings. These rankings do not reflect where I think they will be drafted, however I have included the range at which each player should go. I also have not included international prospects in these rankings, with the exception of Dante Exum. Player comparisons (some overly optimistic) as well as my favorite potential sleepers and busts are also listed. Potential Sleepers:
1. James Young
His size, length, shooting, and athleticism are all above average to elite for the shooting guard position and he doesn’t turn 19 until August.
2. Zach Lavine
Super raw, but is arguably the best athlete in this draft (yes, better than Wiggins), has great size and a good stroke but lacks feel for the game.
3. Elfrid Payton
A complete point guard prospect who may be getting overlooked due to his relative lack of elite competition at Louisiana-Lafayette
Potential Busts:
1. Doug McDermott
Will have to reinvent himself as a spot up shooter in the NBA, and may not athletic enough to get his shot off or run superior defenders off screens.
2. Gary Harris
Doesn’t excel in any one area and is undersized as a shooting guard.
3. Zach Lavine
His downside matches his upside. Is likely he starts in the D-League, and might struggle there against stronger, smarter players. His fit for the team that drafts him is huge for his development.
